Can you read my messages?
No. Messages are encrypted on your device and can only be opened on the devices of the people in
the chat. Our server holds no key that could open them.
Where is my chat history kept?
On your own devices, stored encrypted. Our server only holds a sealed message until it reaches
everyone it was sent to, then deletes it. There is no cloud copy of your history.
What happens if I lose my phone?
Your recovery phrase restores your identity on a new device. Your history comes back from another
device of yours, or from the people you talk to. Without either, it cannot be recovered, because
we never had a copy.
What can your server see?
Not what you write. To deliver messages it does see when they are sent, which accounts are in a
chat and who is online, and it identifies accounts by a scrambled form of the email address
rather than the address itself. We protect what you say; we are honest that delivery needs some
of this.
Why is there a blockchain involved?
Only as a public notice board for keys. It lets your device check a friend's key for itself
instead of trusting us. No messages, files or contacts are ever written to it.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Fruuli runs in any modern browser. You can also install it from the browser to get an app icon
and notifications, on your phone and on your desktop.
